Please be aware that when you’re connected to Betternet or any VPN service, data going in and out of your device travels through the VPN servers first before reaching their designated target. That's how internet anonymity is achieved, and why it's normal to experience a speed reduction when using any VPN service. How much speed you lose depend on a variety of factors, such as the distance to the VPN server, as well as your underlying internet speed.
Below are a few troubleshooting steps you can try before you perform a speed test:
- Make sure there are no third-party apps interfering with your speed
- Please note that switching the connection OFF and ON a few times can help the app search for servers that are closer to you, which may help increase the speed.
- Try different VPN protocols. Some VPN protocols may be faster for you than others.
- If you've manually selected a country to connect to, the distance to the server can affect your internet speed. For example, if you are located in Boston, connecting to a VPN server in Sydney can have a greater impact on your speed than connecting to a server in Boston.
