With Betternet, you get access to multiple features depending on your platform. This features can vary from split-tunneling to killswitch. Please select what platforms features you want to know more about below:
Windows
With Betternet, you get access to multiple features and settings that can improve your privacy and security with our VPN. Please take a look at each feature below.
Reconnect Automatically
This feature, if toggled, will help the VPN reconnect automatically if it somehow gets disconnected. This will eliminate the need to manually connect the VPN if it does get disconnected.
Prevent IP leak
Allowing this will prevent your IP from being detected while connected to the VPN. Once connected to Hotspot Shield your public IP has already changed, but this feature can prevent any sites, cache or cookies from leaking your IP.
Kill Switch
If Betternet suddenly disconnects, enabling this feature will stop the data flow, protecting you by not allowing the internet traffic to run in the background once the VPN disconnects.
Unsafe WiFi Hotspots
If this setting is toggled, then Betternet will attempt to automatically turn on or connect when you are connected to a Unsecured WiFi hotspot.
Safe WiFi Hotspots
If this setting is toggled, then Betternet will attempt to automatically turn on or connect when you are connected to a secure WiFi hotspot.
Exclude Domains
Betternet supports split tunneling via a feature it calls"Exclude Domains". It enables you to exclude certain apps and websites from the VPN tunnel. You need to enable the feature and add the apps or websites you want to go through your regular ISP connection. This can help with email issues, and access issues to certain sites and apps.
VPN Protocol
If you are experiencing connection issues or in some rare cases access issues that cannot be fixed, we recommend switching to different protocols to identify what protocol best works for your network. You may find success when switching protocols. We always recommend Hydra as it is our internally developed protocol with super-fast connection speeds.
Andriod
With Betternet on Android, we have current features that can help with increasing your privacy and security when using the VPN. Please take a look at each one below:
VPN Protocol
Smart
This is automatically turned on when you connect to a virtual location. When this protocol is selected, we will pick the fastest and most secure protocol to connect to for your network or area.
Hydra
This is our company-developed protocol. It only can be found with us. This unique protocol is the fastest in the VPN industry and faster than our other protocols. It is the most secure of our protocols, so whenever you have a technical problem, please try changing to Hydra.
Wireguard
This protocol has been designed for ease of use. While it is not entirely recommended, it is a faster protocol with a lower chance of it being compromised compared to other protocols.
Auto-Protect
Activate this setting to have an auto-connection to Betternet to protect you fully. This will eliminate the need to connect and disconnect the VPN manually.
Always-on VPN
This will auto-connect to Betternet on the device startup.
Kill Switch
If Betternet suddenly disconnects, enabling this feature will stop the data flow, protecting you by not allowing the internet traffic to run in the background once the VPN disconnects.
Split-Tunneling (New)
This feature is now available on Android!! We hope you will take advantage of this feature that will allow you to bypass certain websites that can help with access issues with mail services and streaming websites.
Mac
With Mac OS on Betternet we have limited settings but settings like split-tunneling, VPN Protocols, and Auto-protect is on the roadmap and those settings will be available in the future. Please take a look at our current settings below:
We currently only have one setting available, and it is start on launch.
Start on Launch
With a start-on-launch enabled, the VPN will automatically turn on when you either wake the device up or turn your Mac on.
iOS
We have a few settings on iOS for Betternet to help better secure your device and information. Please review each setting below:
To view your settings, navigate to the 3 bars on the top left and click on settings.
After clicking on settings, you will see three options. Let's go through each one.
Auto-Protect
You can toggle this setting to activate an auto-connection to Betternet on device startup. Let's go through each setting.
Always On
With this toggled on, the VPN will Auto-connect to Betternet when you start the device back up from sleep mode or if the phone was turned off.
Unsecured Wi-Fi Networks
Enable unsecured WiFi when you connect to a public network such as Starbucks or any public area. This will auto-connect the VPN to these unsecured networks.
Off
Use this setting to toggle Auto-protect on and off.
Push Notifications
Toggle this setting on and off if you would like to receive notifications when you are connected to the VPN on WiFi and you can receive alerts notifying you that you are joining an unsecured WiFi.
Kill Switch
Protect yourself even further with this feature enabled. Once toggled on, the VPN will disconnect automatically if there is a loss of internet connection from the device. This prevents data from leaking from the time you were using the VPN. Having this enabled will not allow the internet traffic to run in the background once the VPN disconnects.
Split-Tunneling (New)
This feature is now available on iOS!! We hope you will take advantage of this feature that will allow you to bypass certain websites that can help with access issues with mail services and streaming websites.
