We are sorry to hear you are experiencing connection issues on your Windows device. Please review the steps below for further troubleshooting.
Before troubleshooting, please make sure:
- You are connected to the internet
- You are using Windows 7 or later
- To isolate the cause, temporarily disable any 3rd party app that may interfere with your connection. For example, a firewall with strict settings, or another VPN application or an antivirus.
- You have the latest version of the app (some older versions will have trouble connecting to our new servers)
On your Windows computer:
- Disconnect Betternet
- Open the Bettenet directory (Default location is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Betternet
) - Go to the config folder (Default location is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Betternet\config
) - Locate and delete the following files:
- sd-info-direct.cfg
- sd-info-failed.cfg
- sd-info-saved.cfg
- Launch and connect Betternet
If the previous steps failed, please do the following:
- Disconnect Betternet
- Go to the Network Adapter Settings (Control Panel > Network and Internet >Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings > Double click your active adapter > Properties)
- Find Internet Protocol Version 4 in the list of connection items.
- Double Click on it
- Select Use the following DNS server addresses
- In Preferred DNS server type: 8.8.8.8
- In Alternate DNS server type: 8.8.4.4
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Launch and connect Betternet
